Burnt Oak Junior School are very excited to announce a new partnership with a Primary school, in Ghana.
In the near future, both schools will be working together on joint curriculum topics and sharing teaching and learning experiences. The schools will be learning about the water uses in Ghana and the UK. This will be taught in both schools for the children in Year 5. Children will be given the opportunity to be set up with ‘pen pals’ in Ghana and letters will be exchanged between schools and web cam interaction on a regular basis as well as a termly focus on comparing the culture in the UK and Ghana. Teachers from Ghana and the UK will visit each others’ school and give the children a real insight as to what it means to be English/Ghanaian.
The aim of the project is to enable children in both schools to become global citizens for the future. It will allow the children to become ‘united’ with a school very different from their own. They will be able to share ideas, understand a different culture and way of life.
During this term, the children will be involved in activities which will allow us to raise some funding towards the project. Eventually we hope to expand this involvement for the children to become advocates and fundraisers in their own right. Through raising money we hope to invest in learning resources for the children in Ghana and actively improve their way of learning. The children here in Year 6 have already shown much enthusiasm, wishing to donate their personal belongings such as books, stationery and technology.
