The Members of The Pioneer Academy are:

Doug Robinson (by virture of his position as Chair of the Trust Board) - Doug is a retired former Senior Civil Servant.  His posts at that level covered finance and planning, accounting operations and production of Statutory Accounts and corporate governance.  Some nine years ago, he was appointed as a Local Authority Governor at a junior school in Sidcup. He was elected as its Chair of Governors in 2010 immediately after the school had a ‘Satisfactory’ Ofsted judgement.  In 2013 the next Ofsted Inspection judged it as ‘Requires Improvement’. From 2010 to 2014 the LA ran termly Focus Group/Partnership Board meetings to oversee progress towards achieving Ofsted Key Issues.  Data indicated the school’s progress levels were not improving and the school had been without a head teacher for a year. At this point the Governing Body decided to become sponsored academy within The Pioneer Academy (TPA).  Following DfE approval as a sponsored academy, Doug was appointed a Director of TPA in 2014. He was elected Chair of the Trust Board in 2016.

Richard Kellaway - Richard was commissioned as an Officer of Customs and Excise in 1966 and enjoyed 33 years service with HM Customs and Excise. He specialised in investigation work but held other senior positions in the Department including Chief Staff Inspector, Head of Bermuda Customs and Head of Security and Estates. His final post was as Chief Investigation Officer when he headed the National Investigation Service comprising about 2000 people whose principal role was to investigate drug smuggling, tax fraud and money laundering. In 1999 he was appointed the Drugs and Serious Crime adviser to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.  In 2000 he was appointed the Director General of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and held that post until his retirement in 2010.

Peter Birdsall - Peter joined the Metropolitan police in 1985 and retired in 2015. He was involved in many major investigations and received Commissioners and Assistant Commissioner commendations. When he retired he started a property investment company and a pub management company. The portfolio has nearly fifty outlets.  Peter is also Deputy Chairman to a road safety group and has been an active member of the PTA‘s at the schools his children have attended. 

Andrew McCormick - Andrew  is a qualified biochemist, with a PhD from The University of Bristol and a background in immunology and biochemistry. He has been a Civil Servant for the past 6 years, currently at the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, and previously at the Department for Education. He brings extensive knowledge of central Government and policy development, as well as expertise in stakeholder engagement and relationship management.
