Physical Education
Our aim is for all pupils to leave Edenbridge physically literate and with the knowledge, skills and motivation necessary to equip them for a healthy, active lifestyle and life- long participation in physical activity and sports.
A high-quality physical education curriculum inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically-demanding activities. It should provide opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness. Opportunities to compete in sport and other activities build character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect.
At Edenbridge, we are committed to inclusion in all its aspects and ensure that all children, regardless of ability, race, gender, culture or SEND, are given appropriate opportunities to access the curriculum. In order to achieve this, we provide a differentiated curriculum and, where possible, additional support. Visual aids are used and a variety of equipment to enhance pupils’ knowledge, understanding and progress within the lessons. Skills and Progression
Our essential learning objectives for Physical Education at Edenbridge Primary school are to enable children:

To experience and enjoy a wide range of experiences within physical education and sport.
- To develop enthusiasm, positive attitudes and practical skills in order to participate, compete and lead a healthy, active lifestyle.
Swimming
Years 5 and 6 will continue to have swimming lessons for 10 weeks throughout the academic year. These will focus on teaching children to:
- Swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres.
- Use a range of strokes effectively [for example, front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke].
- Perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.
Inter-school Competitions
We are very lucky to have such amazing sports facilities nearby. Edenbridge Primary are part of the Sevenoaks sport group, where local schools in and around the Sevenoaks area compete against each other in different sports. Sevenoaks has some of the top sports clubs in Kent meaning our pupils can access the best sporting facilities during matches. Sevenoaks School which was used by the Australian Olympic team during London 2012 is also used as a host venue for these activities. We aim to compete in as many sporting events as possible.
We also compete in competitions across the academy within our family of schools.
