Handball Inter-Community Competition

19.7.18

On Wednesday 18th July, 2018, Year 3 took part in a handball inter-community competition lead by some of Year 5.

All of the Year 3 pupils demonstrated key sporting values and skills from accurate passing and shooting to determined defending, as well as teamwork and perseverance.  The Year 5's who led the event were once a credit to the school, showing a maturity beyond their years as they encouraged and organised year 3 pupils to ensure they understood and enjoyed the competition. They took on roles such as score-keeper, referee, coach and photographers, and all of the leaders rose to the challenge and performed these exceptionally well.

Well done, to 3L who were the overall winners, the team-talk by Miss Lewis at the start of the competition must have been incredibly inspiring and this was represented in their attitude and effort throughout the morning of her team(s).

Author Jeremy Strong and The Mayor of Bromley came to visit

We have had a very exciting week and were thrilled to have 2 very important visitors in school on Monday, the author Jeremy Strong and The Mayor of Bromley. The Mayor introduced herself to all the children in Year 3 and 4 and she was very impressed with the new provision to nurture our children. Our Head Boy and Head Girl, Shayaan and Fleur, did an amazing job showing all the fantastic work the children do at Red Hill. Every class had the opportunity to meet Jeremy Strong and hear about how he became a published author and many children were able to buy a signed copy of one of his books. He officially opened our Early Years outdoor area and was very impressed with the investments made for the youngest of our children, offering them a brilliant start to their education at Red Hill Primary.

Year 1V

This week we have been using our computer skills to draw holiday pictures on the paint program in the ICT suit.

Chamber Choir

Educate and Celebrate

Last week the school was awarded a Gold Award for its equality working by Educate and Celebrate.  Red Hill is now a Best Practice School for ensuring we treat every body equally including members of the LGBT+ community.  As part of the award, the Chamber Choir attended a Showcase event with other schools in London where they performed the song "This is Me" from The Greatest Showman.  Their performance was excellent and they were a credit to the school.

Pioneer Sports Day

Well done to everyone who participated in the Pioneer Sports Day. It was a great day for all those involved and was brilliant to welcome all the other Pioneer schools here. The day consisted of a netball, football and an athletics competition. Red Hill had a really successful day with the netball and athletics teams being crowned the winners and the football team finishing 3rd. More importantly though all the children enjoyed the day!

To kick off our new topic, A day in the life of, one of our amazing parents came into school to teach us how to be superhero lifesavers! We learnt how to do CPR to the tune of Harvest Hoedown. What a fantastic way to start our topic!

Edu-bake

SECOND PLACE!

In the grand final of the Educake and Celecake competition the school came in second place.  Lilly Baker and Bella Daly went with Miss Lewis and Mrs Daly to Hackney to take part in their very own Bake Off!  They created a Votes for Women Diversity Extravaganza Cake and in a nail biting final came second overall.  Everyone at Red Hill is very proud of their achievement!

Year 2

This week, Year 2 took part in an inter-class benchball competition with Miss Benbow. All of the classes played each other in different matches and 2M were lucky enough to be overall winners!

We showed communication, resilience and co-operation through working in our teams, and respect for the other teams too.

Miss Melvin is super proud of us! Here we are with our trophy.

year 2

Class 2D

Bug Man Visit To Year 3

On Tuesday, Year 3 had a fantastic day with the Bug Man. We got to hold insects and reptiles from the rain forest. We really enjoyed this! Although it was a little scary, we faced our fears and got to hold a tarantula called Molly, an Australian stick insect, a rat snake and a chameleon.

Gardening Club

Here is the Gardening Clubs first harvest - Rhubarb! This week we have planted out tomatoes, potatoes, onions, radish, squash and peas. We are eagerly awaiting the strawberries to ripen in June.

Year 5 Raising Standards In Writing

Year 5 Raising Standards in Writing

In year five for the last two weeks we have enjoyed watching chickens hatch and begin to grow.  We used this to inspire some non-chronological report writing.  We researched the life cycle of a chicken in science and then practised using bullet points to make notes from a variety of sources such as the internet and books.  In our Big Write session last Friday we wrote a report using headings, sub headings, bullet points, formal and technical language.  We even created our own footnotes to explain some of the tricky language.  Today we say goodbye to the chicks as they leave to live a long and happy life on a local farm.

Tag Rugby Competition

Miss Benbow took a group of pupils to play tag rugby at the Bromley schools competition. The students played well as they became familiar with the tactics and rules of the game. They have only had 2 training sessions, so this was their first experience in a competition. They scored some brilliant tries, with Millie showing great speed and agility to top the try scoring. Defensively, the teams understanding improved and we saw some outstanding tackles (tagging) by Thomas and Jack. All the students showed an excellent attitude, teamwork and work ethic and were a credit to the school. Overall, they finished 12th out of 25 teams in the competition, which is an outstanding achievment, after only 2 training sessions.

2M

2M have been super lucky to have gymnastics sessions with our fantastic coach Sam! This week we were working on our bridges and then used our skills to create, and perform, a floor routine.

6C

6C this week have been looking at narrative poems, along with their work on The Blitz and Evacuation.  We created our own narrative poems to show the journey of an evacuee or of a night during The Blitz in London.

2D

As part of our work on The Great Fire of London, 2D have been acting out how King Charles I came to the rescue by suggesting that they use dynamite to blow up houses to make fire breaks.  The children took the parts of King Charles I, his soldiers and houses.  We then followed this up by writing newspaper reports in the September 1666 edition of The London Gazette.

ICT - Autumn Term

It has been a very busy term in Computing and the children have worked extremely hard on learning new skills.  The Reception classes and Year 1's have explored how to log on to the computer, learning the keys on the keyboard and controlling the mouse by creating various portraits and illustrations.
