PSHE

Personal, Health, Social and Citizenship Education underpins life at Broadmead Primary School. Our school is a values-based school that believes in developing a set of skills and attitudes that prepare our children for the modern day world.

Children’s attitudes to themselves and each other must be healthy if they are to be safe, happy learners. The emphasis is on encouraging individual responsibility, awareness and informed decision making, which is based around our 8 personal goals.

Our school PSHE Curriculum aims to provide opportunities for all pupils to learn and achieve. It promotes pupil’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural development and prepares children for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of life.

At Broadmead Primary School we deliver Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education (PSHCE) through the IPC and supplement with the Kapow curriculum. We strive for children to become independent and healthy citizens of their local community. Through PSCHE, children are able to share their thoughts and opinions, build their confidence and understand morals to ensure they can independently make the right choices.

We use the Kapow section for our PSHE planning – https://www.kapowprimary.com/

Whole School PSHCE related days

  • Red nose day
  • Children in need
  • Harvest
  • World mental health day – A speaker has been planned to run 2 assemblies. (KS1 emotions based) (KS2 explaining mental health and why its important – raising awareness.
  • Anti bullying week

All of the above supports building rounded citizens who recognise others less fortunate than them and can act charitably.

‘Respect, Resilience, Ethical, Communicator, Empathetic, Adaptable, Thinker and Collaborator’. The personal goals are incorporated within plans, for example respect is taught to be shown to ourselves, the environment, other people and our community. See attached the personal goals display. Whilst learning about each of the personal goals, each year group has a specific personal goal that they strive to encourage deeper understanding of. As they move up throughout the school, our pupils will get the opportunity to learn, celebrate and appreciate the importance of each of the 8 personal goals. With this, each year group has a ‘Personal Goal Champion’ that accompanies their personal goal. The pupils are given the opportunity to consider their champion and the actions that person took to earn their place as a champion for that goal. These champions serve as role models for the year group.
